How to use it. Step by step.
Short how-tos for each part of the app. If your question isn't here, write to us.
Getting started
Download the app, drag it to Applications and open it.
Setup asks five things: your firm, your client folders, a level for them, the AI tools you use, and how you want to hear from the app.
You can skip setup and come back. The app remembers where you stopped.
Folder levels
Watch only: AI can work in the folder. Every step is written down.
Ask me: AI has to ask before it uses a file. It waits for your yes.
Strict: supported AI tools are turned away. Each try is noted.
To change a level, open the client's page and go to Settings.
AI jobs
A job is work you hand to an AI tool from the app. It works on a copy, so your folder stays the same.
When it's done, the work waits for you. Let all of it in, part of it, or none.
Watching your AI tools
The app can also watch AI tools you use outside it: Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI and Copilot CLI.
Turn it on in Settings, under AI helpers. Strict folders are then turned away for those tools too.
The evidence pack
In Settings, under Evidence pack, pick a period and the clients. Choose Make evidence pack.
You get one folder you can share. Check a pack tells you if anything in it was changed later.
One set of rules for every Mac
The owner sets the firm's rules once. Each Mac follows them and can only get stricter.
Settings shows which Macs are up to date.
Warnings on AI websites
With the browser add-on, the app warns before client files or client text go to ten AI websites.
It's a warning, not a block. You choose Send anyway or Remove it.
The sample firm
In Settings, under Help, choose Show the sample firm. Try everything on a made-up firm.
Your real clients don't change. Choose Leave the sample firm to go back.
Kits and job ideas
In Settings, pick your kind of work and choose Apply kit. It sets starting levels, letters and job ideas.
You can bring in a whole folder of client folders at once.
A second yes
In Settings, under Second review, choose which work needs a second person's yes.
A reviewer can send work back with a note. Nothing changes until someone says yes.
Staff training
On People and policy, each person reads the lessons and takes the quiz.
The owner sees who has passed and who signed the AI policy.
Swapping out names
In Settings, turn on name swapping for chosen clients or for pasted text. Try it shows what would be swapped.
It can miss some names. Read the answer before you use it.
On this Mac only and offline
In Settings, set chosen clients to This Mac only. Only AI that runs on the Mac may touch their files.
Offline mode turns off every part of the app that uses the internet.
Letters and consent forms
On a client's page, Documents has the How we use AI letter and a monthly page the client can check.
Consent has a form the client can sign. Note the signed copy when it comes back.
Something isn't working
Open Settings, then Help, and choose Get help. You see the whole message before it's sent.
Or write to hello@agenttasklock.com.
